CUHK Students Participated in

Merrill Lunch Applied Finance Joint Protect Scheme

Students of the CUHK's MSc Programme in Finance participated in the Merrill Lynch Applied Finance Joint Project Scheme with Peking University (Beijing) and National Chengchi University (Taiwan). This project is part of a new Master's degree course introduced at all three universities in the first quarter of this year. Conceptualized and sponsored by Merrill Lynch, the project aims to provide a platform for graduate business students of the three cities to collaborate and increase better understanding of business and culture in the Greater China region. A donation of US$165,000 (approximately HK$1.3 million) from Merrill Lynch was made to facilitate academic exchange and encourage practical business experience among graduate students in the Greater China region.

A competition was held in May 20 and 21 where more than 80 students from the three schools gathered in Hong Kong. They formed 21 teams and developed strategic plans for seven selected companies in Greater China to increase shareholder value. The winning team, which investigated a£á?Delta Electronicsa£á?, comprised students from the three universities, including Lorraine Cheung (CU), Liang Hongxin (PekingU), Wang Peng (Peking U) and Joachim Kern (National Chengchi). Their in-depth and accurate analysis outperformed other teams and impressed the panel of judges, including Faculty members from each participating university and finance professionals from Merrill Lynch. They won a cash prize of US$10,000.
