Center for Business Innovation and Globalization

Mission:

To assist in the economic and social development of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region (including major cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong) and further develop The CUHK Faculty of Business Administration’s expertise and reputation for developing responsible and innovative global business leaders with China insights and responsible and innovative Chinese business leaders operating in global markets.

Goals:

To advance business innovation and sustainable globalization of Chinese and international firms through:

  • Forums, speaker series, and conferences to foster knowledge transfer and develop industry and corporate connections for students and faculty;
  • Provide CUHK MBA students with first-hand exposure to business innovation and globalization through business practicum and internship programs in PRD and ultimately launching a part-time MBA program in Shenzhen with a focus on business innovation and globalization;
  • Executive education programs to train the owners and presidents of PRD firms and assist these firms in business innovation and globalization;
  • Research programs that study and promote business innovation and globalization in the region;

Through these activities, our ultimate goal is to advance the social and economic development of the region and further integrate CUHK Faculty of Business Administration with the region.


Functions / Responsibilities:


CUHK BiG Forums

Regularly scheduled speaker series and mini-conferences that bring together entrepreneurs, VC and PE firms, governments, our CUHK EMBA/MBA students and alumni. Topics focus mainly on innovative business models, globalization strategies, entrepreneurship, new technologies and VC/PE opportunities in Shenzhen and PRD. These Forums will be held in partnership with industry and government organizations.

PRD Lab

To organize and support opportunities for CUHK and international MBA student teams (from other major universities) to engage in consulting and business practicum experiences with PRD firms. Specific practice areas will be chosen to establish expertise domains that will benefit companies that take advantage of this offering. The Center will partner with commercial consulting firms in selected projects.

Executive Education

To develop executive education focusing on entrepreneurship, management of innovation and technology, and globalization. Programs will be both independent and offered in collaboration with top overseas universities that are strong in these areas.

Case-Writing

To develop and publish cases on successful business innovation and globalization among local PRD firms and international firms operating in the PRD to facilitate knowledge transfer and business development.


Operations:

The Center for Business Innovation and Globalization (Center BiG) was established in mid-2011. It operates out of CUHK Hong Kong as well as the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute (Nanshan) where its main office is located.
