About Tolo Harbour Business Angel Support Group

 
     
 

CUHK is located next to the Tolo Harbour. Over the decades thousands of people have graduated and succeeded in their career. Many of them have become prominent and wealthy alumni of the school.

Making use of the strong alumni network, the Tolo Harbour Business Angel Support Group is an initiative of the Centre for building and serving the angel investor community in Hong Kong. We would like to recruit as members who are either experienced angel investors or high net-worth individuals,without experience,but keen to become angel investors.

 
     
   
Objectives
     
 
  • Educate and motivate more high net-worth individuals to make angel investment
  • Encourage mutual support among angel investors in deal flow, due diligence, co-investment, etc.
  • Provide a platform to assist angel investors to network with entrepreneurs and other professional investors
  • Create and accumulate knowledge on angel investment
 
     
  Early stage investment is typically long period. Success of the group is assessed by the number of members, member retention, investment rate, new angel converted, and member satisfaction.  
     
  While encouraging angel investment, we always remind members the potential risk.

New Angel Investors

 
  Potential angel investors are high net-worth individuals who are interested in angel investing and would invest if they gain necessary skills and confidence. We offer them training and a network that will motivate them to take action.

  • Trustworthy
  • High net-worth
  • Interested in angel investing
  • Financially strong to bear the risk of investing in early stage companies
  • Likely to invest once acquiring necessary skills and being guided by experieneced investors
  • Share the Groupˇ¦s value and objectives

  • Company founders/ Entrepreneurs
  • Senior management in large corporations
  • Management consultants
  • Investment bankers
  • Second generation of family businesses
  • Other professionals (such as accountant, doctor, lawyer and professor)

Entrepreneurs
 

The goal of the angel investor group is to serve the angel investor community, so we recruit start-ups mainly to serve the investment interest of the members. For example, if angel members are in technology sectors, our focus would be on tech-startups. Similarly, if most members are good at investing in income ventures, the targeted entrepreneurs will be in food and beverages and alike. Nonetheless, startups who have opportunity to pitch will receive advice from members to improve their business plan and to prepare for their presentation.

  • In the industry of member's interest
  • Good business plan
  • Operation located in Hong Kong or Southern China
  • Requested capital limited to a relatively small amount (usually no more than HK$ 7 million)
 
     
 

Potential Candidates

 
 
  • Ventures in Science park, InnoCenter, CyberPort, ASTRI, and universityˇ¦s technology transfer program
  • Referral by members, venture capitalists, boutique investment banks, or other professional organizations

  If you are interested in joining the support group as an angel investor or pitching as an entrepreneur, you are welcomed to register as a friend of the Group. After registration, you shall receive updated news and activities of the Group.
