The Center for Hospitality and Real Estate Research (CHRER) will serve as a base for generating cutting edge research to shape the hospitality field, and to conduct locally relevant applied research projects that will directly benefit the hospitality industries in Hong Kong. It will also serve as a bridge between academia and industry. Current research projects include:

- Momentum and Overreaction in Tourism Stocks
- Institutional Holdings and Monday Effect in Tourism Stocks
- Hedging Weather Risk - the Design, Pricing and Application to Hong Kong Disney
In addition to conducting research, the Center will disseminate research findings, conduct applied research to meet the demand of the hospitality industries, and conduct executive training programs. Together with, the Center for Hospitality Research at the School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University, CHRER jointly organized a CU2 Joint Conference in Hospitality and Tourism in 2001 in Hong Kong. Together with, the Hong Kong Hotels Association, CHRER jointly organized a Senior Executive Training Program in 2001 in Hong Kong. The School organized the Tourism Forum on March 22, 2003 as one of the major events in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the University. Entitled “Charting Strategies for Developing Hong Kong as a Tourist Destination”, the Forum was attended by some 220 leaders of the hospitality industry, policy makers and educators as well as students.
