Scholarships
Introduction
Every year, thanks to the generous donations from various donors, scholarships, prizes, and academic awards were offered to provide to students in CUHK who have demonstrated their academic excellence and outstanding performance in other fields. Scholarship is not only a financial assistance, but also recognition to the awarded student.

Application
After the beginning of your 1st term in CUHK, you may notice that different scholarships are offered:
- Scholarships open for student’s application. These scholarships can be found throughout the year at Office of Admission and
Financial Aid (OAFA)’s webpage (http://www5.cuhk.edu.hk/oafa/) - Scholarships required nominations from Faculties/Schools/Departments, subject to the final selection/approval by the donating parties. These scholarships usually open for registration starting from end September every year. Openings would be posted at our online database under “Online Application”.

Nomination
For those scholarships required nomination from Faculty, UGO will nominate students according to the requirement set out by the donation party.
Usually it comes down to:
- Your cumulative/Year GPA;
- Your major/program/concentration;
- Your extra-curricular activities;
- Your service to community
The nomination will be submitted to the donation party for final decision/approval via OAFA. Successful candidates will be notified by OAFA directly.
Interview
Some scholarships will required candidate to attend interview. The donation party will review our nomination and decided which students would be short-listed for interview. They will inform you the interview arrangement via OAFA.
Tips to Students on applying scholarships:
Getting a scholarship is a competitive process. The scholarship donors want to ensure that only the best, well prepared applicants are selected. The winning secret for this is to prepare or consider before applying a scholarship.
- Get full scholarship information
- Each scholarship has its own application procedure. It is important to read the materials carefully and to understand what information is requested.
- Check the Eligibility
- Apply only for those scholarships for which you are eligible. Check for any specific requirements on applications and only apply if you definitely match the eligibility criteria.
- Organize all scholarship materials
- Many scholarships require you to provide the following documents, make sure to prepare in advance:
- Transcript and or Academic Certificate
- Proof of your extra-curriculum activities/awards
- Family's financial information
- Letters of recommendation
- Proof of eligibility (e.g. membership credentials)
- Resume/CV

- Listed relevant Activities and awards
- List all relevant activities and awards, but be selective.
- Your activities should represent your varied talents and passions outside the class room.

- A polished Resume
- Some scholarship applications will ask for your Resume. You may go to our e-Learning Platform to learn about how to structure a powerful and impressive resume and cover letter.
- Letter of recommendation
- Your letters of recommendation should come from teachers/ academic advisors who are familiar not only with your academic abilities, but with your personal interests and background.
- As soon as you have the application forms, schedule a meeting with your recommender. Give your recommender a written description of the scholarship, your personal statement, a copy of your transcript and an autobiography or resume highlighting activities and honors.
- Be sure to give the recommender plenty of time to write the letter, do not wait until the last minute.
- You may also want to remind the recommender that the letter should address the qualifications sought, your full name and your Student ID number.
- Letter paper with the recommender’s Department letterhead should be used.
- Listed relevant Activities and awards
- Be organized
- Stay on top of deadlines, gather all required documents, and make copies of everything you submit.
