Concentrations
All IBBA students have to take a series of business foundation courses in Year 1, which forms a basis for them to decide which concentration(s) to choose or whether to pursue a double major or minor programs.
The IBBA Program offers students 12 special areas of concentration to broaden their career options upon graduation. Students can choose up to two concentrations from the following areas:
- Business Economics
In order to stay competitive in an environment of challenges and opportunity, an enterprise needs leaders who have an in-depth understanding of the environment in which a firm operates and a ready-to apply insights. The structured program of this concentration is designed for those seeking to apply managerial economics to solving problems and understanding the business environments in the field. Courses in this concentration provide economic views on the operations of enterprises in a market environment for corporate decision-making and strategy formulation. Emphasis will be on the application of economic principles to major business decisions.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 63 units. (i) Required Courses:

BBA03102 units - Management Information Systems
Information technology is an enabler of business management. The MIS concentration is designed to equip students with contemporary IT knowledge to enhance their career development. This concentration is particularly suitable for students who would like to pursue a career in this IT pervasive business world. No prior programming or technical computer knowledge is required. Courses in this concentration provide the foundations and essential knowledge of MIS, such as financial information technology, data mining for managers, business processes analysis and information systems auditing and others. This concentration also offers a MIS Practicum elective, which will provide students an opportunity to participate in IT project development with external companies.

BBA03102 units - Supply Chain and Logistics Management
This concentration area is designed to help students develop the necessary technical concepts and managerial skills needed to practice Supply Chain Management and to pursue a career in logistics management. It is particularly suitable for students with critical thinking, who are interested in the use of information technology and decision support methodology. The concentration offers a selected range of courses in quantitative analysis, knowledge management, and operations management – with strong emphasis on applying contemporary technology and business management concepts in managing supply chains.

BBA03102 units - General Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics
This concentration area is designed to help BBA students to familiarize themselves with different analytical tools needed for decision-making under uncertain business world. By taking this concentration, students will have an opportunity to learn important concepts in economics and business operations. In addition, students will be exposed to different quantitative methods that can be used to facilitate decision-making, as well as the computer-based decision support systems designed to implement these methods. Students can also take courses that discuss current and relevant issues in economics and business, such as regional economy, electronic business, and supply chain management.

BBA03102 units - General Finance
The General Finance concentration consists of a comprehensive curriculum in finance, which covers mainstream subjects such as corporate finance, financial engineering, and financial institutions, and related subjects such as insurance and real estate. To meet the need of different students, the Finance Department offers a long list of courses for this concentration. In response to the needs of Hong Kong and Mainland China's financial markets, course coverage is very much biased towards the Hong Kong and Mainland institutional environment. However, students will also be exposed to international issues and practices. Graduates with this concentration can work in business and finance areas or pursue advanced studies in finance.

BBA03102 units - Financial Engineerings
This concentration was developed in response to the market's need for persons with a more quantitative, analytical approach to finance. To fulfill the requirement of this concentration, students must take courses prescribed for financial engineering. The courses include financial markets, investments, derivatives, fixed income securities, and other quantitative finance courses. Students will be exposed to international issues and practices well as the Hong Kong/Mainland Chinese institutional environment. Graduates with this concentration can pursue advanced studies in finance or take jobs that require a good knowledge of financial instruments.

BBA03102 units - Insurance and Risk Management
This concentration area is designed to help students develop the foundation and necessary knowledge to pursue a career in insurance or financial service companies. It offers a range of courses from concept of insurance and risk management to management of insurance and related institutions. In particular, this concentration emphasizes the use of insurance as a tool in management of risk encompassed both at personal and corporate levels. Students who complete certain courses successfully can get exemptions of related courses from the Institution of Financial Planners of Hong Kong Limited which is the sole licensing body of the Certified Financial Planner designation in Hong Kong.

BBA03102 units - Human Resources Management
The Human Resource Management Concentration instills in students a systematic approach to managing organizations through the functions of planning, organizing, leading, communicating and controlling. Students also learn to appreciate the importance of innovation and change management in enhancing organizational performance. Besides the core understanding of organizational behavior, several professional human resource management courses, such as human resource planning and staffing, training and development, performance and compensation management, managing employment relations and international human resource management, are offered. To prepare students for independent working in organizations, a course in developing managerial skills and a professional course on consultancy and change management are also offered.

BBA03102 units - Management of International Business
The Management of International Business Concentration aims at developing innovative managers and leaders for the global world. Students are expected to possess global mindset, receive multi-disciplinary training, and be entrepreneurial, innovative, and multi-a lingual. The concentration requirements include international management and entrepreneurial components, multi-disciplinary courses, and a language requirement. The objective is to provide students rich inter-cultural experiences with an international business knowledge base. Knowledge in international business facilitates an international career. Courses like Global Enterprise Management, China Business, Asian Business, European Business, Global Entrepreneurship, Advanced Analysis of International Business, International Human Resource Management, Global Strategy, Selected Topics in International Business and International Relations for Global Managers, keep students abreast with the latest international business and technology ideas.

The Department of Marketing runs a program that emphasizes marketing management theories, analytical techniques, and real-world practices, and aims at training high-calibre graduates for modern enterprises. Students who plan to pursue a career in marketing-related jobs can choose courses of their interest from a set of concentration courses in their upper years of study. These courses, in their various combinations, not only provide students with a solid training pertaining to the strategic fundamentals of the discipline in general but also allow the students to become versed in their specific area of interest such as multi-cultural marketing, services marketing and cyber marketing.

BBA03102 units - Quantitative Marketing
In today’s information age, many organizations maintain huge customer databases which can be analyzed and applied to support marketing decisions. There is a strong demand in Hong Kong and China for quantitative marketers who are well-versed in data analytics, mathematical modeling and database technology while they speak the language of marketing. In view of this new marketing trend, the Department of Marketing will offer a new concentration “Quantitative Marketing” to BBA students in Fall 2010. This concentration prepares students an exciting career to work as database marketers, marketing analysts, internet marketers, managers of BIU (Business Intelligence Unit) in various industries.
