Launched in 1998, the Master of Science in Business Economics (MScBE), a part-time master degree program offered by CUHK, was the only of its kind in Hong Kong. The emphasis of the curriculum is on enhancing students’ understanding of economic behavior and the macroeconomic environment, developing their business acumen, boosting their analytical ability, and applying economic theories to pertinent business problems.
The 2006-7 curriculum is new. The MSc BE Program has actively expanded its scope of China studies. In addition to taught courses, a conference on “Business Opportunities in the Yangtze River Delta” will be held in a local hotel on Saturday, February 18, 2006. Six distinguished guest speakers will present their valuable business experience in the Yangtze River Delta Region and the opportunities and challenges that Hong Kong faces. In addition, a field trip to the Yangtze River Delta will be held in mid-June 2006.
The Program has a long-running Business Seminar Series in which top business executives, serving as guest speakers, discuss their insights on current business issues. This required course is now jointly run with two other BA MSc programs, eBusiness Management and IT Management.
The program has an intake of students of mixed undergraduate majors and forms of work experience. Applicants with extensive executive work experience may apply for GMAT exemption, and non-economics majors can take optional pre-term courses to enhance their fundamental knowledge of economics. A good mix of students induces active exchange and excellent bonding, which may well extend beyond graduation and benefit students’ career development. |
