Several queries about the language requirement:
- You need only as few as one unit. That means you can fulfill the requirement by taking one Mandarin course (1 credit).
- You have fulfilled the requirement if you have taken a language course for your minor requirement, say JAS1450. That means we allow double count here. However, this is not to confuse with other required courses. So, if you have taken JAS3440, you can use it for satisfying either your minor requirement or MIB requirement. But not both.
- If you have a Chinese language background, courses you take from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature would not be accepted to fulfill this requirement.
-
Below are a list of courses you can use to fulfill this language requirement
provided that the language studied is not your first language:
- Any Mandarin and Cantonese language courses offered by the Chinese Language Centre
- JAS1450, 1460, 2450, 2460, 3070, 3170, 3310, 3320, 3350, 3390, 4080, 4310, 4350, 4390, 4440, 4450, 4710
- FRE1110, GER1110, ITA1110, SPA1110 and any other higher level European language courses
- ELT1100 and ELT3110 are required courses and are not accepted as fulfilling the requirement. However, any other courses from the ELT and Department of English are acceptable.
