BiG Forum: Innovation Edge – The Case of China Merchants Securities by Wilson Wan

The Center for Business Innovation and Globalization (BiG) held its third forum at the CUHK Business School on January 5. In an engaging and entertaining presentation, keynote speaker Wilson Wan, CEO of China Merchants Securities, drew on the experience of famous entrepreneurs as well as his own leadership experience at various banks to bring out practical advices on business innovation and globalization. In particular, he highlighted lessons learned during the Asian and global financial crises.

Charity Event - Visit to the Buddhist Po Ching Home for the Aged Women

On 22nd December 2012, 65 CUHK Business School volunteers, including alumni, colleagues and friends, brought warmth and laughter to 90 seniors at the Buddhist Po Ching Home for the Aged Women. Organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, this inaugural charity event was enthusiastically received, with encouraging feedback from participants. Highlights included a performance of Chinese oldies by Prof. Didier Guillot, a magic show by MBA alumnus Wilson Wan, and 300 cakes baked by our student-run Café 12. Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this event so memorable!

Center BiG Official Launch Ceremony and Forum

On 20th October, Center for Business Innovation and Globalization celebrated its official launch. The opening ceremony was followed by the presentations on the topic: “Macro Innovations: Towards Mega Metropolis and Global Enterprises in China”. The presenters were Mr. Lun FENG, Chairman of Vantone Holdings Co. Ltd and Mr. Vincent PENG, President of Global Sales and Key Accounts Department of Huawei Technologies Co. Following the presentations, an open “Big Dialogue” was held which was facilitated by Prof. Robert Lee. Dialogue speakers included, Mr Lun FENG, Mr Vincent PENG, Mr. Jack GAO, CEO of News Corporation China Investments and Mr. Robert XU, the President of Kingdee International Software Group. The forum attracted a full house of audience and received a good level of media coverage.

CUHK Successfully Holds the CUHK MBA CSR Conference 2012

The 6th Annual CUHK MBA CSR Conference held on May 10, 2012 marks the beginning for the growth of a new Asia. The CUHK CSR committee has been focused on how to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility at the academic, corporate, and community level to create a platform for sustainable synergy.

BiG Forum: Proactive Innovation Targeting Key Trends by Ms Aglaia Kong, Global VP of Cisco

Hot on the heels of the successful Center BiG forum in Shenzhen on March 2012, Center BiG’s Director Prof. Robert Lee and business school staff successfully ran the second BiG forum: “Proactive Innovation Targeting Key Trends”. This is the first BiG forum in Hong Kong with a simultaneous broadcast via internet to an audience at the Shenzhen Lecture Theater, allowing participants to see and hear the event in real time.

Finance Department ranked no 18 in the World, no 1 in both HK and Asia

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School announced that the Department of Finance, led by Professor Joseph Cheng is ranked extremely well in two widely cited global rankings. The Department of Finance achieved a ranking of 18 in the Arizona State University (ASU) World Finance Department Research Ranking and tied with three other prestigious universities including Stanford University, University of Michigan--Ann Arbor and Cornell University. This ranking is based on the number of articles published in the three leading finance journals in 2011: Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies.

The program is also ranked 22nd in the University of Texas (UT) Dallas World Business School Research Ranking based on contributions in the top three finance journals in 2011 till now. In both rankings the Department of Finance achieved the top ranking in Hong Kong and in Asia.

The Department of Finance is ranked first in the world by ASU and second by UT Dallas outside of the US.

香港中文大學財務學系研究論文數量列全球排名第十八、同時列亞洲及香港第一

香港中文大學商學院宣佈, 由鄭會榮教授帶領的財務學系於兩項世界權威排行榜中名列前茅。 其中,財務學系在亞利桑那州立大學的世界財務學系研究排行榜名列第18位,並列排名的包括世界三間頂尖學府,分別是史丹福大學、密西根大學安娜堡分校以及康乃爾大學等。排名是根據學系在2011年內於三本具領導地位的著名財務期刊所發表的論文數量而定,該三份期刊分別為Journal of Finance、Journal of Financial Economics及 Review of Financial Studies。

此外,中大財務學系亦於德克薩斯大學達拉斯分校管理學院的研究排行榜排名第22位。此排行榜的排名是根據財務學系於2011年至今於上述三本財務期刊內所發表的金融相關論文數量而定。財務學系在上述兩項排行榜皆名列香港及亞洲第一位。

除卻美國之大學以外,財務學系在亞利桑那州立大學的排行榜中獲評為世界第一位, 在德克薩斯大學排行榜中則獲評為世界第二位。

OneMBA teams complete the Green Power Hike challenge

Two determined teams (10k and 25k) of OneMBA Hong Kong Alumni faced the challenge in this year’s Greenpower Hike 2012 on the beautiful Hong Kong Trail. The teams proudly carried the OneMBA brand on their custom made jerseys (a joint design/production by Daily Lam 2007 and the CUHK OneMBA program office).

Financial Times 2012 MBA global rankings CUHK Business School ranked no. 28

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School announced that its MBA program is ranked 28th in the world according to the Financial Times 2012 rankings of the top 100 full-time global MBA programs released today.

Chinese University of Hong Kong rebrands Faculty of Business Administration

The Chinese University of Hong Kong announced today that the Faculty of Business Administration has been rebranded with a new, refreshed logo that not only reflects its heritage as Hong Kong's oldest business school, but is an external manifestation of the cutting-edge research and teaching excellence that it brings to developing global business leaders for the Asian century. As part of the rebrand, the faculty will become known as CUHK Business School.

Developing Global Business Leaders for the Asian Century CUHK's EMBA Ranks No. 14 Worldwide, No. 1 Independent EMBA in the Asia-Pacific Again

The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Executive MBA Programme scored another success in the Financial Times 2011 ranking of EMBA programmes released today.

In its latest global survey of 100 EMBA Programmes worldwide, the London-based Financial Times ranked CUHK's EMBA Programme No. 14 in 2011. The programme has been consistently ranked top amongst all independent programmes in the Asia-Pacific region. This year it was again ranked No. 1.

CUHK Business School MBA Corporate Social Responsibility Conference 2011 Urging Global Partnership for Sustainable Development

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Master of Business Administration (MBA) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conference 2011 was held successfully today (11 May) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 250 delegates from over 50 organizations of various business domains participated in the conference to share their experience and aspirations of fulfilling social responsibility through responsible business practices.

Grand Opening of Teaching Hotel and Naming of Cheng Yu Tung Building of CUHK

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) celebrated the grand opening of the Teaching Hotel today (4 January). The Teaching Hotel Project comprises Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin and the teaching building named Cheng Yu Tung Building, and provides state-of-the-art internship, teaching and research facilities for the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), CUHK Business School as well as research institutes at CUHK, marking a new chapter in Hong Kong's hotel and tourism management education. Officiating at the ceremony for the grand opening and the naming of Cheng Yu Tung Building were the Honourable John C. Tsang, Financial Secretary, The Government of the HKSAR; Dr. the Honourable Cheng Yu-tung, Chairman, New World Group; Dr. Cheng Kar-shun, Henry, Managing Director, New World Development Company Limited; Dr. Vincent H.C. Cheng, Chairman of the Council, CUHK and Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President, CUHK.
