Learning Outside Classroom - Outward Bound Programme

First-year students of the Full-time MBA Programme and the MBA Programme (Evening and Weekend Modes) are required to attend five-day and three-day adventure courses, respectively, at Outward Bound Hong Kong before starting classes in September. Participation is compulsory. Students are given physical and mental challenges such as rappelling down a steep rock face and overcoming physical obstacles at sea and on land. They quickly learn the importance of acquiring skills in teamwork, leadership, and communication to solve problems. These exercises help students to become aware of their personal strengths and weaknesses. This self-discovery process is the first step in personal development. The course is not only an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other, but also forms the foundation of the interpersonal group skills that are required throughout their CUMBA experience.

Learning through adventure and hands-on learning to teach what you possibly cannot learn in class rooms is what outward bound is all about. Outward bound has taught me three most important virtues of life, TRUST, TEAM WORK & FRIENDSHIP.

We found out that if you really work together you can almost solve everything. At the end we really felt like a family and you would do everything for each other.

Spending a night on an isolated island is the most memorable part of the whole programme because everybody showed their team spirit in helping each other to survive.

"Challenge leads to change. When you bravely faced the challenges and finally defeated them, you changed yourself. Every member surprisingly found that he or she was capable and could deal with many hard jobs that looked impossible at first glance.
