Methods and Medium of Instruction

Medium of Instruction

All MBA courses will be taught in English, with the exception of elective courses of a unique nature in which teaching in Chinese is preferable.

Methods of Instruction

The MBA Programmes place primary responsibility upon each individual faculty member to decide on the course materials and the method of teaching that will prove the most effective in realizing the objectives of the course and be most suitable to the subject matter. The methods commonly used include lectures, discussions, case analyses, seminars, gaming models, and directed research. In addition, plant tours, surveys, and field work are conducted by students, and local businessmen are invited to give guest lectures or lead class discussions.

The case analysis method is used extensively where it is appropriate. This method provides realistic business situations for students to analyze, evaluate, and formulate decisions on the basis of the knowledge that they have acquired or are in the process of acquiring. Usually, students are required to make oral presentations of the case and/or prepare written analyses, and case materials are often used as the basis of course examinations. Regardless of which course materials or delivery methods are adopted, they must pertain to achieving a balance between theory and practice, with a clear emphasis on relevance.
