- The First part-time MBA degree programme (1977)
- The First EMBA programme (1993)
- Unprecedented partnership in a global executive MBA programme with premier business schools across four continents, the OneMBA, Global Executive MBA Program (2002)
- Landmark MBA Programme in Health Care (2002)
By continuously achieving inspiring innovations in curriculum, teaching and learning, we are firmly positioned as a leader in graduate business education.
Global Focus and Local Relevance in Perfect Balance
We are committed to training leaders who will contribute to Hong Kong, which is why we endeavor to keep our curriculum relevant to the needs of the local community.
Yet we are conscious of the force shaping the business world today X the force of globalization X which is why we painstakingly design courses that can specifically meet the changing demands of the global marketplace, with the ultimate aim being to ready graduates for leading organizations in a global business environment.
Our internationalism is built on a team of international faculty members who can accelerate students international vision, which is crucial in today's competitive marketplace, unprecedented programmes such as the OneMBA, Global Executive MBA Program, which help develop students cross-cultural business skills, and an international student exchange programme, which allows students to cultivate the intercultural sensitivity and communication skills that are essential for crossing cultural barriers.
Strong Academic Connection with China
We have always adopted a proactive strategy in building our China network. Our students regularly travel to China for field studies. Our faculty has initiated numerous China research projects over the years, participated in setting up research centers across the border, and entered into research collaboration with mainland institutes. The Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (a research entity under Faculty of Business Administration) organizes management training courses for middle and senior executives in Chinese enterprises.
We are among the first universities in Hong Kong to offer joint programmes with mainland institutes. Following the landmark MBA Programme in Finance launched in 2000 in collaboration with Tsinghua University, another joint programme, the Executive Master Programme of Professional Accountancy, which had its first cohort of students in 2002, sealed our ties with the Shanghai National Accounting Institute. Recently, agreements on launching an EMBA programme with Xian Jiaotong University and an MBA Programme in Finance with Tsinghua University in Shenzhen have just been concluded, with the first intake scheduled to commence in 2004. More collaborative projects are in the pipeline as expansion north of the border continues to top our agenda.
The graduates of these China programmes will form an integral part of our China network, allowing Hong Kong alumni to tap into the web of invaluable connections with mainland corporate chiefs, senior executives, and possibly influential government policy makers.
Distinctive Faculty with Diverse Insights
Our faculty is an impressive convergence of intellectual capital. With members from all continents, it represents a good cultural mix as well as a rich and diverse range of interests, expertise, and backgrounds. Many faculty members come from prominent universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Western Ontario, Chicago, Northwestern, and New York.
To complement this standing faculty, noted industry practitioners are invited to serve as adjunct professors and guest lecturers. Distinguished visiting scholars and seasoned leaders serve as speakers in numerous seminars and forums. They inevitably impart practical and experiential knowledge to students and help to broaden their perspectives.
Impressive Progress in Research Achievements
Our faculty research has achieved a quality that stands well above many other business schools in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Business Research Websource, a Canadian database on business research, from 1998 to 2001 our productivity in research papers ranked 34th on a global basis.
In 2003, the Financial Times ranked our research programmes 29th worldwide. We have also been ranked 18th by International Strategic Management (ISM) Research.
In 2004, we have been ranked 4th producer in International Business Research in the world by Management International Review.
Through the years we have not only fostered outstanding PhD students, but many of our research graduates have also become eminent professors in leading universities. Quite a few of them have joined the faculty of local universities, reciprocating their knowledge to the local business education.
Far Reaching and High-Powered Network
Since 1966 we have built a 3,300 strong alumni network. These people who share the CUHK business education experience offer a lifelong resource for career development and social interaction to their fellow graduates.
Many of our MBA graduates are now at the helm of Hong Kongs major business establishments. They remain staunch supporters of the Faculty mission. They return to CUHK as guest speakers, sharing their insights on how their MBA experiences have fostered their career growth. They volunteer to serve as mentors, advising incumbent students on how to prepare for an increasingly complex business world, and how to come out winners and leaders in challenging situations. They also sit on our MBA Advisory Board, giving input and guidance to strategic planning for programme development.
Through formal and informal activities with industries, as well as collaborative projects with major local companies, we have succeeded in establishing solid relationships with the local business community. Our China programmes and extensive cooperation with international institutions around the world all contribute to building a far-reaching network that spans five continents.
