(1) Major Programme
A. Applicable to students admitted in 2006-07 and thereafter
 
(i) Required courses 49 units

(2) University Language Requirement
Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis Majors are required to complete ELT 3110 Business Communication.
(3) Programme Requirement
Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis Majors admitted through the Early Admissions Scheme in 2004-05 and thereafter are required to complete one of the following courses, preferably in their first term of the first year of study:
MAT 1010 University Mathematics
*MAT 1310 Calculus and Linear Algebra for Applications
MAT 1320 University Mathematics for Applications
Students are also required to complete 6 units of free electives for fulfillment of the Major / Faculty requirement

(4) Programme Language Requirement
A. Applicable to S7 entrants admitted in 2004-05 and thereafter
1. English
All Business Administration Major students are required to complete 3 or 6 units of English as specified below:
Students with Grade "A" or "B" in HKALE AS "Use of English"
ELT 3110 Business Communication (4th semester of study or thereafter)
Students with Grade "C" in HKALE AS "Use of English"

*ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies (1st year of study); AND

ELT 3110 Business Communication (4th semester of study or thereafter)
* Students may take a replacement course or be exempted from this course as approved by the Programme Director.

Students with Grade "D" or below in HKALE AS "Use of English"

ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies (1st year of study); AND
ELT 3110 Business Communication (4th semester of study or thereafter)
Students who do not have HKALE AS "Use of English" results
As determined by the Programme Director in consultation with ELTU:
*ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies (1st year of study); AND
ELT 3110 Business Communication (4th semester of study or thereafter)
* Students may take a replacement course or be exempted from this course as approved by the Programme Director.
2. Chinese
(i) Students with Grade "D" in HKALE AS "Chinese Language and Culture"
    3 units of Elementary Chinese or Chinese from the following list of courses:

(ii) Business Administration Major students exempted from the Chinese language requirement for admission by the Senate are required to complete, as determined by the Programme Director.
   (a) 3 units of Elementary Chinese or Chinese, OR
   (b) 3 units of Cantonese or Putonghua
   The courses for selection are as follows:

1. Expository Writing
All Business Administration Major students are required to complete 3-unit English language expository writing course offered by the School of Hotel and Tourism Management in their 3rd semester of study.
2. English
All Business Administration Major students, with the exception of Hotel and Tourism Management Major students, are required to complete, as determined by the Programme Director, ELT 3110 Business Communication in their 4th semester of study or thereafter and one of the following courses.
  • ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies (including non-EAS, mainland and non-mainland students)

  • ELT 2550 Spoken English for Business Administration (for EAS students only)

  • Any 3-unit elective course offered by ELTU

3. Chinese
(i) All Business Administration Major students, including those admitted through EAS but excluding those in (ii), (iii) and (iv)  below, are required to complete CHI 1813 Professional Chinese (BSA).
(ii) Mainland students proficient in Cantonese are required to complete, as determined by the Programme Director, CHI 1813 Professional Chinese (BSA)
(iii) Mainland students not proficient in Cantonese are required to complete, as determined by the Programee Director, CHI 1813 Professional Chinese (BSA) and 3 units of Cantonese. The courses for selection are as follows:
   CAN 2213 Cantonese
   CAN 3213 Intermediate Cantonese
(iv) Business Administration Major students exempted from the Chinese language requirement for admission by the Senate are required to complete, as determined by the Programme Director:
   (a) 3 units of Elementary Chinese or Chinese and 3 units of Cantonese / Putonghua; OR
   (b) 6 units of Elementary Chinese or Chinese

C. Applicable to students admitted in 2003-04
1. English
(i) All Business Administration Major students admitted through the JUPAS who have obtained Grade “D” or below in HKALE* AS “Use of English” are required to complete ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies in their first year of attendance.
(ii) All Business Administration Major students admitted through Early Admissions Scheme are required to complete ELT 2501 Effective Oral Communication in their first year of attendance. Students who have not taken ELT 2501 Effective Oral Communication in 2003-04 should take ELT 2550 Spoken English for Business Administration for replacement.
(iii) All Business Administration Major students NOT admitted through the JUPAS or EAS are required to complete ELT 1100 English Enhancement for Business Studies in their first year of attendance. They can take a replacement course for this course or be exempted from this course as approved by the Programme Director.
2. Chinese
(i) All Business Administration Major students admitted through the JUPAS who have obtained Grade “E” in HKALE* AS “Chinese Language and Culture” are required to complete CHI 1660 Chinese for Faculty of Business Administration in their first year of attendance.
(ii) All Business Administration Major students admitted through Early Admissions Scheme are required to complete CHI 1509 Chinese for Communication in their first year of attendance. Students who have not taken CHI1509 Chinese for Communication in 2003-04 should take CHI 1813 Professional Chinese (BSA) for replacement.
(iii) All Business Administration Major students NOT admitted through the JUPAS or EAS are required to complete CHI 1660 Chinese for Faculty of Business Administration in their first year of attendance. They can take a replacement course for this course or be exempted from this course as approved by the Programme Director.
* Obtained in that particular sitting of HKALE which the University has used to assess the admission qualification of the student concerned.
