CUHK won the 1st Runner-up Prize at The Chartered Institute of
Logistics and
Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK) Student Day 2005

Already in its eighth year, CILTHK Student Day aims to provide students who are studying logistics and transport discipline with an opportunity to gain exposure to CILTHK members who are experienced in various sectors including air, road, rail, shipping, public transport, distribution, terminals, academics, government, consultancy in the logistics and transport community.

This year's Student Day took the form of a case study competition on topics of logistics and transportation. The competition aims to train up students' ability to formulate solutions for a topical problem under timed conditions, and under close competition from peers from other universities and institutions. Participating in the competition were The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong College of Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi Nexus), HKU Space Community College, Lingnan Institute of Further Education, The City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. |

Each of the nine participating teams analyzed a different logistics-related issue as published in the media and presented their views to a panel of five judges: Mr. K.Y. Leung, President of CILTHK, Dr. Stephen W.C. Ho, President of Ferguson International Freight Forwarders Ltd., Dr. David C.S. Ho, Group General Manager of the Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Co. Ltd., Mr. K.W. Ng, Deputy Service Manager of Mass Transit Railway Corporation, and Mr. Jeremy S.F. Ho, Chair of Education and Training Committee of CILTHK.

Under the leadership of Prof. Jeff Yeung, the CUHK team worked on the issue "Suggested extension of service hours of China Ferry Terminal" published in Ming Pao Daily News on December 11, 2004 and were awarded the 1st Runner-up Prize while CityU and HKIVE (Tsing Yi) were awarded the positions of Competition Champion and 2nd Runner-up respectively.
