Tips for Graduating Students -
Qualities Required by Prospective Employers

It is often suggested that students should understand which essential qualities are required by prospective employers and to plan on how to equip themselves with these qualities for successful career development.

In December 2004, The CUHK Career Development Board, conducted a study with its 11 corporate Board Members, who are all leaders in the business sector. They were asked to select the three most important qualities they would look for from potential employees. The summary was as follows:

  • Organizational skills
  • Flexibility
  • Aggressiveness

  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Professional competence and knowledge
  • Balanced background and exposure between academic and extra-curricular activities

Students, especially graduating students, are encouraged to take note of these findings and equip themselves with these important hard and soft skills. There are many resources available on campus for students to polish their skills, including the workshops and seminars organized by the Undergraduate Office, the Career Planning & Development Centre, and the Independent Learning Centre, etc.
