¡@
CALL FOR PAPERS
¡@
Innovating Asian Management in the 21st Century
¡@
Bangkok, Thailand, December 12-14, 2002
Hosted by the Chulalongkorn University

The Asia Academy of Management invites papers for its third conference
on the captioned theme. Before the financial crisis, the Asia experience
has been described as "Asian miracle". However, there is much skepticism
for the future of Asian businesses during and after the financial crisis.
Will Asia business firms able to learn from this experience and become
better ones? Or, will they lose the momentum in re-establishing their
successful trend? These may depend on whether Asian businesses are
able to innovate their management practices. Innovating Asian management
in the 21st century and other related themes about Asia management will
form the core issues to be addressed in the conference. More specifically,
issues related to the broad theme of the conference include, but are not
restricted to, the following:
¡@
What are the salient characteristics of Asian firms concerning their
strategies and human resources? Why are they successful in the past?
Will these characteristics be assets or liabilities in the future?
¡@
What are the important characteristics of Asian management? How
are Asian firms adjusting and innovating their management practices?
What is the relevance of these characteristics when compared to Western
management practices?
¡@
How are Asian firms responding to the changing environment after the
financial crisis? What are the changes in the business environment
and the strategies of Asian firms? How do Asian firms perceive the
future environment in Asia and in the world? Are they ready for the
trend of increasing globalization?
¡@
What are the similarities and differences among firms in different
Asian countries? Are they responding similarly or differently to
the changing environment? Are their competitiveness enhanced or deteriorated?
