The Asia Academy of Management invites papers for its fourth conference on the captioned theme. The theme of the last conference was “Innovating Asian Management in the 21st Century”. Having identified the opportunities in the new millennium and coming up with innovative strategies, managers should now move forward to capitalize on those new opportunities and creative strategies. The fourth Asia Academy of Management conference will focus on how Asian managers should lead their organizations in a new era, characterized by unprecedented changes socially, economically, politically and technologically. In this era, more than ever, managing a successful business requires taking higher risks, applying more non-traditional thinking, and responding quicker to everyday crisis. How do managers demonstrate effective leadership in such a demanding time? More specifically, issues related to the broad theme of the conference include, but are not restricted to the following:
§ What are the specific issues that Asian leaders have to confront in this new era?
§ What have Asian
managers learned from the recent crises in
§ What are some of the characteristics that Asian leaders should possess? How should Asian managers be different from those in the west? How should today’s leaders be different from those in the past? What are the new skills that need to be acquired?
§ What are the changes that Asian firms need to make, in terms of strategies and human resource policies, so that they can remain viable and competitive in this new era? What should managers do to manage these changes?
The conference program will consist of keynote speeches, competitive paper sessions and interactive poster sessions.

GUIDELINES
§ Though submissions relating to the major theme of the conference are encouraged, papers can deal with other issues relating to the broad topic of Asian management systems and strategies of Asian firms. The papers may be grounded in any major management disciplines including business strategy, organizational behavior and theory, human resource management, international management, and ethics and social issues in management. Conceptual, theory-building, or empirical papers from the above disciplines are welcome.
§ All submissions must be original and should not have been previously accepted for publication in a journal, presented in another conference or be under review at another conference.
§ Selected papers presented at the conference will be published in the proceedings of the conference. The proceedings will also include abstracts of all the papers presented at the conference.
§ All papers will be blind reviewed. At least one author of each paper must register for the conference and present the paper.
§ There is no page limit but contributors are encouraged to limit
their paper to less than or equal to 20 pages (A-4 paper, font 12, double
spacing with margins of 1 inch) including the cover page, abstract, text,
references, table and figures. The format follows the
§ Papers should be prepared and presented in English. For the interactive poster sessions, papers may be presented with an extensive Chinese abstract (about 1000 words).
§ Manuscript prepared by Microsoft Word should be submitted electronically to the address: aaom2004@business.hku.hk
