Message from the Executive Director
APIB, CUHK

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) was established in 1990 as the external arm of the Faculty of Business Administration at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). APIB’s mission is to provide education programs, research and consultancy services to assist managers and companies in meeting business challenges in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. APIB has offered a wide range of diplomas in all functional areas of business since 1991.

To reflect our specialization in executive education, APIB also offers a range of Executive Diplomas. More than 83 percent of those entering our Executive Diplomas have already held university degrees, including Master degrees with First Class Honours and Ph.Ds. For APIB diploma graduates, diplomas are more than a “second chance” for university education. Our diplomas have become a pathway for high-level university graduates to cross over into a second career or to expand their skill set. Such graduates provide important stimuli to both teachers and classmates.

We shall offer an entry-level programme, the Diploma in Business Management, which will provide an alternative gateway to our Executive Diplomas.

To further implement the APIB Ladder of Learning, our Executive Diploma graduates can gain accelerated entry into an International MBA program by The Victoria University of Wellington, the top management school in New Zealand. This opportunity should remain available for future graduates.

At The Chinese University of Hong Kong, we are committed to ensuring that our programs meet the high standards that you are entitled to expect from the leading business faculty in Hong Kong.

Leslie Young, D. Phil. (Oxon)
Executive Director,
The Asia-Pacific Institute of Business, CUHK

Message from the Program Director
Diploma in Business Management

In my 30 years’ of teaching, the Diploma in Business Management is the most rewarding program that I have been involved in. Why? People enter the program with basically no business knowledge and, in view of the fact that a few years have usually lapsed since their last exposure to formal education, are understandably more than a little nervous about what lies ahead. Happily, we, the teachers, are aware of this and take great care to present the different subjects in a user-friendly manner, focusing on establishing a firm foundation in the fundamentals of business and providing high quality, comprehensive support materials.

Well, what an amazing transformation by the end of the Diploma! The confidence that people have gained as a result of mastering a new subject area is a pleasure to behold. So is the commaderie that has developed amongst classmates as they have supported each other in their studies and taken delight in each other’s personal triumphs in applying their new skills to the workplace. As we say farewell on the last class day, I am rewarded by the sight of groups of students, now friends, planning their next step up the educational ladder, confident of success now that the first hurdle has been overcome.

Suzanne Young, MA
Program Director
