Mr. Gabriel Yu is the founder and Chairman of iTVentures Limited, a private investment and management group focusing on incubating IT startups. He also founded the Italade Technology Thailand Limited in the high tech manufacturing industry in Thailand.
Mr. Yu is regarded as an IT pioneer in Hong Kong with his founding of Chinesebooks.com. His notable creation of the digital version of Siku Quanshu is the largest electronic database of Chinese classics.
Mr. Yu's professional and business careers span across different industries. Educated in electrical engineering, he worked as a design engineer between 1970 and 1973. After he completed a 2-year MBA program, he worked in the investment bank industry during the period 1975-1983. He was in the capacity of senior manager in corporate finance before he left HSBC in 1983 to start his own businesses in apparel trading and PC hardware distribution. In 1988 he set up a manufacturing operation in Thailand, specializing in PC high-precision assemblies. In 1992, he co-founded a medical technology company in Asia.
Mr. Yu holds a number of eminent advisory positions: -
- Member of the Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee to Hong Kong SAR Government 2000-2004.
- Sub-Committee on IT in Education of the Education Commission 1998-2000.
- Executive director of The 2022 Foundation in Hong Kong.
- Member of Media & Communications Services Advisory Committee of Hong Kong Trade Development Council 2001-2002.
- Member of Hong Kong University of Science & Technology Advisory Committee on Entrepreneurship from 2000-2002.
- Honorary Advisor of the Caritas Bianchi College of Careers.
- Adjunct Professor of the City University of Hong Kong.
- International Advisor to iCarnegie.com, an online educational company established by Carnegie Mellon University.
- Advisor to Conceptlabs, a high tech incubation and technology consultancy company based in Mountain View, California.
Mr. Yu graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1970 and obtained his MBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1975. He was the class representative at the Chinese University and the recipient of the Price Waterhouse Award for the best all-round graduate for his prominent academic achievements.
Being an alumnus of the Faculty of Business Administration, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr. Yu has been very supportive to students' academic development. Since 1988, Mr. Yu has donated scholarships for MBA programmes students to recognize their outstanding academic achievements.
余志明先生為香港宜高科技創業集團的創辦人及集團主席，該公司投資及創辦多家資訊科技公司。余先生亦是泰國的Italade Technology Thailand Ltd. 的創辦人及主席，該公司專門生產高技術裝配。
余先生先後創辦了博學堂，並製造中文出版領域內最大電子數據庫《文淵閣四庫全書電子版》，更因此而被譽為本地資訊科技界的先驅。
余先生的專業學問及營商經驗跨越不同的行業。他供讀電子工程，並在一九七零至一九七三年任職設計工程師。 於一九七五年取得工商管理碩士學位後，他在投資銀行界任職，專責公司財務等事宜。他於一九八三年離開匯豐銀行要職，白手創業，成立成衣貿易及電腦硬件代理業務。其後於一九八八年，他在泰國曼谷設立廠房，專門生產高技術電腦裝配。他亦曾於一九九二年，在本港成立醫療科技公司。 從一九九五年開始，余先生致力於開發電子商業及資訊科技教育。

余先生於一九七零年畢業香港大學電子工程學系，並於一九七五年在香港中文大學取得工商管理碩士學位。在中文大學就讀期間，他曾擔任班代表並榮獲傑出學生獎最優秀畢業生大獎。
余先生為香港中文大學工商管理學院的校友，一向致力參與及支持學生的學術發展。自1988年，余先生特別設立獎學金，表揚工商管理碩士課程學生的優異成績。 |
